The Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohammed Marwa (Retd), has called on Nigerian families to purchase and use drug test kits at home as a proactive measure against substance abuse.
Speaking at a sports competition organised by the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Marwa emphasised that early detection is a vital tool in preventing drug addiction among the youth.

Marwa described drug abuse as a “national loss” that robs young people of their future.
He urged parents and guardians to be attentive to their children and to recognise the warning signs of substance use.
He also commended DEPOWA for using sports as a medium to promote a “Live Free, Stay Clean” message and offered the NDLEA’s support to schools that establish drug-free clubs.
In her address, DEPOWA President, Oghogho Musa, explained that the sports event was designed to empower students to embrace drug-free lifestyles through positive peer influence and increased awareness.

She stated that the four-week programme, which will conclude on October 16, 2025, aims to provide sustained education on the dangers of substance abuse, particularly for adolescents who are susceptible to peer pressure.
Musa acknowledged the support of partners, including First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, and praised the NDLEA for its nationwide efforts in rehabilitation and public awareness.
