Lagos State University (LASU) in Epe has received a major infrastructure boost with the official opening of a new 550-seater auditorium.
The state-of-the-art facility was a donation from Olatunji Bello, the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commissioned the Olatunji Bello Auditorium yesterday, four years after the former Lagos State Government Secretary pledged to construct the edifice to mark his 60th birthday.

The event was attended by academics, government officials, students, and notable leaders, including former Ogun State Governor Aremo Segun Osoba.
Sanwo-Olu hailed the auditorium as a “beacon of knowledge, creativity, and intellectual engagement.”
He praised Bello for his generosity, noting that the donation aligns with his administration’s focus on education and technology.
The governor emphasised that the new facility would enhance academic discourse and cultural exchange, inspiring students to strive for excellence.
Also, Bello, who is also the husband of LASU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, stated that his motivation for the project was to leave a lasting legacy in academia.
He stressed that individuals with the means should invest in public tertiary education to help close infrastructure gaps, as the government cannot do it alone.
He further announced that a private management company would maintain the auditorium for its first year before handing over maintenance to the school.
More so, LASU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, said the auditorium is a “strategic investment in academic excellence and institutional identity.”
