The Kwara State Government, in partnership with Kwara State University (KWASU), has launched a new initiative to promote sustainable transportation with the handover of converted electric vehicles.
The project, which saw scrapped gasoline-powered vehicles transformed into electric models, is a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions and fostering technological innovation in the state.
The Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, announced the development during the official handing-over ceremony.

She described the collaboration as a major milestone, highlighting the potential of electric vehicles to drive eco-friendly transportation in Kwara.
Adelodun praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his leadership and support, which she said were instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.
She noted that the successful conversion of the vehicles demonstrates the viability of sustainable transport options in the state and confirmed that training for relevant staff would be provided soon.
Mary Kemi Adeoshun, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, lauded KWASU for its forward-thinking initiative, particularly in the context of the global energy transition.
She expressed gratitude to the Governor for his vision in undertaking such a project.
Representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kenneth Adeyemi, Chairman of the KWASU Holdings Committee, stated the university’s pride in collaborating with the state government.
He emphasised that the initiative is a testament to the success of public-private partnerships and serves as proof of concept for the technological possibilities championed by the Ministry.

The initiative aims to promote sustainable transportation, drive innovation, and enhance environmental awareness across the state.
The handover ceremony was attended by officials from both the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology and KWASU, including representatives from the university’s Centre for Sustainable Energy.
