A corps member’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Community Development Service (CDS) projects came to fruition on July 28, 2025, as Folorunsho Ahmed Adekunle (IM/24B/2487) completed his four-tier Personal CDS Projects in Imo State.
The flagship project aimed to provide access to a functional toilet facility at Boys Model Secondary School in New Owerri.
“According to testimonies from old students, current students, and staff members, the school had no toilet facilities for over a decade, forcing students to practice open defecation,” the corps member said.
The project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes access to inclusive, equitable, and quality education.
Corps member four-part CDS initiatives
The final phase of Adekunle’s four-part CDS initiatives under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) includes the renovation of school toilets, the Owerri Inter-School poetry & debate competition, a children’s right to education awareness campaign, and a male sexual abuse awareness campaign.
The corps member, with state code IM/24B/2487 and an alumnus of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, emphasised the importance of addressing male sexual abuse, curbing the rising number of out-of-school children, protecting the right to education, supporting young creatives in developing literary and oratory skills, and ensuring access to sanitation in schools for a more conducive learning environment.
“I am proud to have executed these four projects during my service year in Imo State and to have made tremendous impacts in different sectors of the community,” he said.
Dignitaries present at the commissioning included the State Coordinator of NYSC Imo (represented by the CDS Coordinator, Imo State NYSC), the Owerri Municipal Local Government Inspector, the public relations officer of the Executive Secretary of the Imo State Ministry of Education, community leaders, and fellow corps members.
The corps member expressed his gratitude to God, his sponsors, and those who supported and crowdfunded the project.
