Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has given firm assurances of safety for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state, promising that every necessary measure is being taken to protect them throughout their service year.
Speaking on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch A Stream II orientation camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area, Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and security of corps members.
“We have deployed additional security personnel to vulnerable areas in the state to enhance safety and ensure that corps members carry out their assignments without fear,” he said.
Governor Alia acknowledged the state’s security challenges, including recent unprovoked attacks on communities, but stressed that his government remains proactive and determined to end the violence.

“We will not rest on our oars. We are working closely with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen interventions and provide lasting solutions to the crisis,” the governor added.
He urged the newly posted corps members to proceed to their places of primary assignment (PPA) with confidence, encouraging them to fully embrace the NYSC mandate of national integration and selfless service.
In a strong warning, Governor Alia also directed government agencies and private organisations in Benue to desist from rejecting corps members, stating that the state’s non-rejection policy remains fully in force.
“Any organisation that defies this directive will be sanctioned accordingly,” he warned.
In her remarks, Mrs Veronica Garba, the NYSC Coordinator in Benue State, congratulated the corps members on successfully completing their orientation.
“I commend your resilience and good conduct throughout your stay in camp. I expect you to take that same positive spirit to your various places of primary assignment,” she said.
She also encouraged them to demonstrate commitment, respect for local customs, and a willingness to contribute meaningfully to their host communities.
