Nigeria’s beloved singing competition, Nigerian Idol, is set to return for its highly anticipated 10th season on April 20, 2025.
The announcement was made by MultiChoice Nigeria, the show’s producers, at a press briefing held in Lagos on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, revealed that this milestone season promises to be bigger and more exciting. She assured fans that while some elements remain the same, the upcoming edition will stand out from previous seasons.
“Nigerian Idol Season 10 is a decade with a difference. Every season is unique, but what remains constant is the judging panel and the audition process,” Tejumola stated.
She emphasized that this season will celebrate both the 10-year legacy of the franchise in Nigeria and five years of MultiChoice’s production. The goal, she said, is to entertain fans while creating lasting impact in the Nigerian music industry.
Surprises Await Viewers
Tejumola hinted that the production team has special surprises lined up for this landmark season. She also revealed that when the dedicated Nigerian Idol channel goes live, it will showcase the journey of the show from its inception to the present day.
Fans can expect an electrifying finale on Sunday, July 13, 2025, where the next Nigerian Idol will be crowned.
Familiar faces and a new judge
The new season will see the return of IK Osakioduwa as host for the fifth time, bringing his signature energy and humor to the stage.
On the judging panel, Ric Hassani and Omawumi will reprise their roles, while Iyanya will join them as a new judge. Iyanya, who rose to fame after winning Project Fame in 2008, brings valuable industry experience and firsthand knowledge of music competitions.
Why open auditions were scrapped
In a significant change, open call auditions have been discontinued. Tejumola explained that the decision was made to eliminate geographical restrictions and allow more aspiring singers to participate.
“The traditional open auditions limited many talented individuals due to location and logistical challenges. Now, the first phase will be held online, making it easier for people to submit their entries from anywhere. After that, selected contestants will be invited for physical screenings and auditions,” she said.
The new process, she noted, ensures that more gifted singers get a fair shot at showcasing their talent.
A decade of musical excellence
Since its debut, Nigerian Idol has served as a launchpad for some of the country’s biggest music stars. Over the years, it has provided a platform for aspiring artists to break into the highly competitive entertainment industry.
As the countdown to Season 10 begins, fans can look forward to incredible performances, emotional moments, and intense competition. With a decade of history behind it, Nigerian Idol is set to deliver yet another unforgettable season.
