President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured members of Nigeria’s armed forces that the country will ultimately overcome insecurity, praising soldiers for their courage and sacrifices in defending the nation.
The president gave the assurance on Friday during an interfaith breaking of fast with members of the military at the Presidential Villa.
The gathering brought together Muslim and Christian personnel serving in the country’s security forces to observe the fasting seasons of Ramadan and Lent while reflecting on their duty to the nation.
Addressing the officers and soldiers, President Tinubu expressed gratitude on behalf of Nigerians, acknowledging the risks and hardships faced by troops who remain on the frontlines in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other security threats.

“I commend your courage, sacrifice and professionalism as you put your lives on the line in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens,” the president said.
He noted that many soldiers spend long periods away from their families while confronting dangerous security challenges in different parts of the country.
According to the president, the efforts of the military have significantly weakened terrorist groups and bandits operating across Nigeria.
“You have been working deeply to serve the country and protect our sovereignty. This nation will always be grateful to you, and your sacrifices will not be in vain,” Tinubu said.
The president also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of members of the armed forces.
He said the government would continue to invest in modern military equipment, intelligence gathering and logistics to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies.
Tinubu also thanked Nigerians for their patience during ongoing economic reforms, describing the current period as a difficult but necessary phase in rebuilding the nation’s economy.
“I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and those of fellow citizens are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel,” he said.
During the event, the president extended sympathy to the government and people of Borno State following a recent terrorist attack in the state, which has been one of the regions most affected by insurgency.
Earlier, the Nigerian Armed Forces commended the president for recent policy decisions aimed at improving the welfare of military personnel.
The Oluwafemi Oluyode, represented at the event by the Chief of Army Staff Waidi Shaibu, praised the administration for approving salary increases and improved allowances for members of the armed forces.
He also acknowledged government support in areas such as procurement of modern equipment and the provision of better housing for soldiers.
“These approvals will go a long way in enhancing our operational efficiency,” he said, adding that the measures had been warmly received by military personnel across the country.
The defence chief assured the president that members of the armed forces remain committed to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring peace and stability across the nation.
Security analysts say improving the welfare and operational capacity of soldiers is critical in strengthening the fight against insurgency, banditry and other threats facing Africa’s most populous nation.
